Unobvious
Co Founder & Owner
The team UNOBVIOUS is a collaboration of Edwin Hanssen, Mark van Hooff and Suzan Krabben founded in 2015.
Professionals with individual skills who seek synergy in this collaboration. In our studio we develop and design creative concepts. Our ideas and designs concern prints and patterns, brand identity, product design, retail concepts, creative strategy and art direction in the broadest sense.
In the store on the ground floor of our space in Amsterdam we used to present our own graphic works: the RISO prints and screen prints we print at AGALab in Amsterdam.
Since March 2020 we decided to focus on our work in the studio and closed the shop. Now the inspiring Mini Gallerie is located on the ground floor and the Unobvious Studio is still located on the first floor.
Every three months we used to invite a young and emerging graphic designer/artist to exhibit graphic works on the wall. We curated according to our taste, and invite them to present a few works, or take over the shop with a full presentation of their work. You also could find a collection of playful goods of (mainly Dutch) designers that complements the graphic collection. And we presented Post Modern, an ever changing collection of postcard sized artworks from reputable artists. We changed, updated and redid the store when we feel like it.
Currently in the studio working on the rebranding of René Schönefeld, a project for BN International and the new product collection for 2021-2022 of Kitsch Kitchen.
From January 2018 Unobvious was organising Festival Designkwartier in The Hague together with Edwin Pelser. Which succesfully took place from 1-3 june 2018.
In March 2017 we've launched a retail concept inspired by the art movement De Stijl as it’s the 100th aniversary of De Stijl. It contains limited edition riso and silkscreen prints, curated products and a collaboration with artist duo Graphic Surgery with our own product development for a limited edition serie of 12 mirrors.
In March 2016 we've delivered the concept for Interior Design of the Cognizant/Collaboratory in Amsterdam. You can find some pictures below.
In June 2015 we've launched our first retail concept: MiniMarket, a pop-up design shop which we realized together with Edwin Pelser. www.edwinpelser.nl. You can find some pictures below.
